Yikes, a lot to respond to... thanks for the interest!

Right now the content is fairly free-form, but pretty much any board or card game that's, say, 10 years old is fair game. So Cosmic Encounter, 3M games, AH Sports, Kingmaker are all possibilities. The main issue is that of those I only own CE and a couple mediocre 3M games. So it will depend on what 's already in our collection and my gaming budget :(

For computer games, I'm probably going for a 5 year cutoff -- not including the FPS restriction. I suspect, however, (as Mark Johnson says) that it'll probably be primarily a board and card game podcast, with the occasional RPG or computer game mention as the spirit hits me.

Jim,

I listened to your Podcast this morning on the commute to work and I have also thought for some time that classic / vintage games are sometimes forgotten with all the new games coming out in recent years.

The Boardgames To Go, Geek Speak and Have Games, Will Travel segments that addressed the podcasters gaming background were enjoyable, and I really liked Mark Johnson's micro-game and wargame shows.

Starting with the early GAMES 100 lists sounds like a good approach and should give a fairly broad base to start from. Are these lists available anywhere?

The inclusion of mass-market games is also welcome. Some were fairly good and some can be made better by changing the rules somewhat as you mentioned. Have you ever seen the book "New Rules for Old Games" by R Wayne Schimttberger? There are some interesting ideas in there.

I also like the possible inclusion of early computer games. I never owned a MAC but had a Apple IIc and a Commodore. At one time I enjoyed Wizardry, the Ultimas and Seven Cities of Gold - are any of these familiar to you? Recently I have acquired a VIC20, Commodore 64, Mattel Aquarius and an Odyssey II. I may even fire them up at some point and see if they work.

Will you also cover wargames? Some of the classic wargames from this era were fairly good with shorter playing times and limited rules.

I am looking forward to future shows and will try to send in feedback although I do get busy at times with work and family.

Good Luck,

Jay

Hey Jim,
Here's a game suggestion to analyze: Kingmaker from Ariel / Philmar / Avalon Hill.
And there's always Cosmic Encounter... and many more I could suggest :-)
Cheers,
Mark

Your intro has whet my appetite. I can't wait until your first full podcast. My family and I are just getting into boardgaming, and we have been slowly building our collection through eBay acquisitions. I'm interested in your take on Parker Bros. and Milton Bradley games from our youth.

Jim that was a nice introduction.

Looking forward to hearing about the 3MBookshelf & AHSports titles from the late 60's early 70's (if you plan on covering that far back)

I am excited to see what all you cover in this (somewhat)niche area of boardgaming!

~Bill

Hi Jim!
Didn't know you were a board gamer! Haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but I'll get back with more comments later.
Great idea for a site!
Cheers,

I was thinking the original, but either would do. I was just using it as an example to show how eclectic the early Games 100 lists -- and the state of the industry at the time -- were. Games these days, with the exception of those from Eight Foot Llama and Cheapass Games, don't feel quite as quirky.

And hello to you too!
