Jim:

Loved the episode. I still have my TSR long box version of the game. I get it out every now and then to play a solitaire game. Never tried any variant rules but they sound neat.

Eric: Whoops. I threw that comment about the rights timing in during recording and meant to go back and check it, and never did. Thanks for the correction! I guess the TSR rights to the game just expired, and Tom Wham moved over to another company, much as Tom Jolly (so many Toms) did with Wiz War.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Enjoyed the show although this is another one of those games that just sits in my game collection unplayed. I can recall playing an old TSR copy a couple of times oh so long ago and I eventually picked up one of the Steve Jackson Games nice green mini-box editions.

Although that's one thing - when you said SJG got the rights when TSR was sold to WOTC, I thought that can't be since I know I bought mine back in the 80's - way back when I would play games like this one. Sure enough, per the Games Journal, it was published as a mini-box by SJG in 1988. Check the link:

Thanks again for a fun show!

Planetheidi: I need to track that movie down -- it sounds like a lot of fun. I wonder if MST3K has done it... hm...

GROGnads: You're right, I skipped over that part in the rules. I still say that at its heart that the game is a wargame -- just a very light one. I'm not sure where the FRP part comes in, as the stats are movement, offense and defense, much like other counter-based wargames I've played. Minis would be a nice touch -- although with the number of characters plastic figures would probably be the most economical option, sadly.

Heya Jim, as per any others, then I too enjoyed this latest episode of yours. I'd like to point out that YOU neglected to mention upon something important that takes place at the beginning of the "game". Once the set up is complete, then '2' "Crewmen" are moved to 'discover' these critters and sound the "alarm", along with making an 'Attack' upon their "stowaway", whence THEN the "game" is ON! It will then proceed accordingly to the 'rules' for this, and so on. I've seen and played at least 3 of the 4 versions of the game, including the very 1st one in which I had to wait in line for this, while I have 1 of the TSR and another of the SJG editions myself. The one of this that I don't have is the more recent SJG sort, which has that VCR 'tape' container although my sister's boyfriend does have it. I'd say that the TSR hardboard type is the BEST of them all and even that "Snit's Revenge" is fairly decent as well. Another thing that I'd freely admit, and it is that for the most part, then this is more akin to a "Space based FRP" what with most of its connotations regarding the 'stats' and all. That doesn't take away from its overall appeal as it stands, and many people have wanted a "rematch" when they're 'done in' as either side when we've played. Lastly, I dare say that someone ought to produce an entilre LINE of "minis" for this, since so many would just LOVE to have seen those "in play" when conducting any 'playings' involving THIS!
P.S.-the "3-eyed chicken" is named 'OOK!' due to his utterances, PLUS...he has his OWN "OOK! suit" in the game.

Loved the show this week. I remember Awful Green Things in the store when I was a D&D playing youth. Never bought it but always wondered. Ironically, Green Slime is a favorite movie of mine.
